Governance & Advisory Council

Ensuring Integrity, Independence, and Global Oversight

The International Education Board (IEB) maintains a robust governance framework to ensure transparency, accountability, and independence in all accreditation and quality assurance activities. Strong governance is fundamental to IEB’s role as an international, non-governmental education authority.

IEB’s governance and advisory structures provide strategic direction, ethical oversight, and subject-matter expertise, supporting the consistent application of international education standards across diverse education systems.

Governance Structure of IEB

IEB operates under a defined governance framework designed to safeguard objectivity and institutional credibility. The governance structure oversees policy development, accreditation frameworks, ethical compliance, and long-term strategic direction.

Key responsibilities of IEB governance include:

  • Approval and periodic review of accreditation standards and frameworks

  • Oversight of quality assurance and evaluation processes

  • Enforcement of ethical guidelines and conflict-of-interest policies

  • Ensuring alignment with international best practices in education accreditation

  • Protection of IEB’s independence as a private, non-governmental body

Advisory Council

The IEB Advisory Council consists of experienced professionals drawn from academia, professional education, quality assurance, research, and institutional leadership. Members are selected based on expertise, integrity, and contribution to education systems at national and international levels.

The Advisory Council provides non-executive guidance and recommendations to support:

  • Development and refinement of accreditation standards

  • Benchmarking against international education quality frameworks

  • Emerging trends in higher education, schools, CPD, and online learning

  • Ethical considerations and learner-centered quality assurance

The Advisory Council does not engage in commercial activities or operational decision-making, preserving impartiality in accreditation outcomes.

Independence and Conflict of Interest Management

IEB enforces strict policies to identify, disclose, and manage conflicts of interest. Governance and advisory members are required to act in the best interest of education quality and public trust.

No individual involved in governance or advisory functions participates in accreditation decisions where a conflict of interest exists. This principle safeguards fairness and credibility across all IEB accreditation processes.

Separation of Governance and Accreditation Decisions

To maintain objectivity, IEB separates strategic governance and advisory oversight from operational accreditation assessments. Accreditation decisions are made through structured evaluation processes, peer review, and documented evidence aligned with approved standards.

This separation ensures consistency, transparency, and protection from undue influence.

Accountability and Continuous Review

IEB regularly reviews its governance framework, advisory roles, and internal policies to reflect evolving global education environments and quality assurance expectations. Feedback from institutions, assessors, and international stakeholders informs ongoing improvement.

Commitment to Global Education Quality

Through its governance and advisory mechanisms, the International Education Board reaffirms its commitment to ethical leadership, institutional trust, and the advancement of quality education worldwide. Strong governance remains central to IEB’s mission of supporting credible and internationally aligned accreditation systems.
